What Is It?
The Sons and Daughters of the Black Fives Era is a group of people who claim that their relatives and/or ancestors contributed to- or helped promote the development of basketball among African Americans prior to the racial integration of the National Basketball League.
Sons & Daughters is a fun yet purposeful organization that wants to include as many people as possible! This group does not discriminate on the basis of race, ethnicity, gender, age, nationality, sexual preference, religion, disability, or military status.
Who Can Join?
Anyone is eligible to join who can show they have a link to an ancestor or relative that made a one-time or ongoing contribution to the Black Fives Era. Examples include anyone who can prove that their ancestor and/or relative:
- Played on or against an all-black team during the Black Fives Era;
- Attended a game or event during the Black Fives Era in which at least one all-black team made an appearance;
- Worked in association with any such game or event, such as in the capacity of a referee, timekeeper, coach, journalist, vendor, crew, musician; staff, equipment supplier, or any other related role in connection with a game, event, playing venue, or team;
- Has an artifact that is linked to the Black Fives Era, such as a newspaper clipping, advertisement, ticket stub, score sheet, photograph, garment, equipment, document, or any other related item or material (members are not required to part with such artifacts).

Are There Membership Fees?
No membership fees or fees of any other kind are required to join.
