On January 13, 2006 at New Lebanon Elementary School in Greenwich, CT, the theme was "Careers in Writing and Research." For the occasion, the school invited Black Fives, Inc. founder Claude Johnson to discuss career opportunities in writing and research, and to share his own experiences with both.

Johnson explained that in addition to traditional avenues such as writing books or newspaper articles, there are many other ways that writing can be used, including writing "copy" for advertisements, for merchandise packaging, on merchandise itself, in marketing materials, in website content, and in press releases, showing examples of each.

He also gave several examples of applications for historical research, including genealogy, as well as a "how to" introduction to using libraries and their research resources, such as microfilm.

Johnson also shared how his passion for writing and research have influenced his own career. Judging from the questions, there are many future writers and researchers among the fifth graders at the school. Meanwhile, to everyone's pleasant surprise, New Lebanon Elementary School principal Gene Nyitray
admitted that he was a huge basketball history fan! Perhaps that explains it!
